Mani Ratnam’s Next: Lead Pair Search Continues for Romantic Drama

Published on:

Mani Ratnam, a revered filmmaker in Indian cinema, has built a career spanning over four decades. He is known for crafting numerous memorable love stories that remain beloved by audiences. While his two-part epic, Ponniyin Selvan, found success in Tamil, his recent collaboration, Thug Life with Kamal Haasan, disappointed both viewers and the industry.

Now, the director is preparing for his next venture, a romantic drama. This upcoming love story, described as a cop romance, was initially slated to begin production this year but faced delays for various reasons. Mani Ratnam has spent the last six months searching for the ideal lead pair, and casting decisions are still pending.

Early considerations for the roles included Dhruv, actor Vikram’s son, alongside Rukmini Vasanth. Dhruv recently achieved a hit with his film Bison, and Rukmini has gained significant recognition, now involved in several major Indian cinema projects after her appearance in Kantara Chapter 1. However, these discussions did not progress, and neither Dhruv nor Rukmini Vasanth will be part of the film.

Current reports suggest that the cop romantic drama is now looking at acclaimed actors Vijay Sethupathi and Sai Pallavi. Both performers have consistently demonstrated their talent in recent years. If this casting materializes, it would mark their first on-screen collaboration.

Neither Vijay Sethupathi nor Sai Pallavi has yet confirmed their involvement. Additionally, Natural Star Nani is reportedly under consideration for a role in Mani Ratnam’s film. While these names are circulating, an official casting announcement from the filmmakers is still awaited for this romantic drama, which is planned for 2026.
