Rishab Shetty on Ranveer Singh’s Goddess Chamundi Controversy

Kantara Star Rishab Shetty Addresses Ranveer Singh’s Recent Controversy

Bollywood personality Ranveer Singh frequently finds himself at the center of public debate. Even when his intentions are not to cause offense, certain events have consistently led to difficulties throughout his career.

At the IFFI festival in Goa last month, Ranveer Singh expressed his admiration for Rishab Shetty’s powerful acting in Kantara Chapter 1. However, during his praise, Ranveer imitated Goddess Chamundi. This action drew criticism from some Kannadiga and Hindu viewers.

Rishab Shetty had reportedly cautioned Ranveer against such gestures before he appeared on stage. Despite this advice, Ranveer proceeded with the imitation. While his act was likely meant positively, religious sentiments are delicate, and such portrayals can easily upset people.

The situation worsened when Ranveer, caught up in the moment, referred to Goddess Chamundi as a “female ghost.” This comment further ignited widespread anger across social media platforms.

Following the public outcry, Ranveer Singh issued an apology on Instagram. He stated he never intended to disrespect any culture and regretted if his actions had hurt anyone’s feelings.

Now, Rishab Shetty has spoken about the incident, though without directly naming Ranveer Singh. Speaking at a Behindwoods event in Chennai a few days ago, Rishab commented that imitating divine figures on stage, in short videos, or on social media is improper.

He clearly stated that such acts make him feel “uncomfortable.” Rishab also shared that he and the Kantara team have repeatedly asked people to avoid casually recreating or imitating divine references.

This event once again shows how even well-intentioned compliments can lead to public disputes. It serves as a reminder for public figures to exercise greater care when discussing faith, culture, and religious feelings, especially in public settings.
