Prabhas’s upcoming horror thriller, ‘The Raja Saab,’ is generating significant excitement as a highly anticipated Sankranti release. Directed by Maruthi, this film is scheduled for a worldwide debut on January 9th.
With high expectations surrounding the project, industry observers have been predicting paid premiere screenings in Telugu states. This practice has become common for major films recently.
However, the team behind ‘The Raja Saab’ made an early announcement that the film will have premiere shows on January 8th. This news came as a considerable surprise to many.
Just recently, the Telangana Cinematography Minister declared that no more ticket price increases or premiere shows would be permitted. This decision followed strong objections from the High Court regarding special privileges granted to recent blockbusters.
The Telangana High Court has been firm in its opposition to ticket price hikes. Even when the state government approved special benefits like increased ticket prices and paid premieres for big movies, the High Court has consistently stepped in to revoke those government orders.
For instance, government orders issued for Pawan Kalyan’s ‘OG’ and Balakrishna’s ‘Akhanda 2’ were quickly overturned by judicial review. The Court has been critical of the state government for not fully adhering to its directives concerning film screenings.
As a result, the government decided against supporting ticket price increases for premiere shows. This led many to believe that special early screenings for high-profile films would cease for the foreseeable future.
Against this backdrop, ‘The Raja Saab’ team’s announcement of premieres starting January 8th, a day before the official release, is quite unexpected. It is not yet clear if these paid screenings will occur across the country, excluding Telangana, or if the team has a strategy to secure approvals from both the Court and the government.
We are waiting to see how the situation with these premiere shows develops as the release date draws nearer.
