The Telugu Film Industry, also known as Tollywood, is preparing to bring a sporting element to its off-screen activities, planning to engage in cricket once more. After seeing events like CCL, where stars from across India formed teams and played T20 cricket, Tollywood is now establishing its own league to maximize the experience.
The Tollywood Pro League (TPL), an ambitious sports-entertainment cricket league for the Telugu film community, recently held its launch event. India’s most celebrated cricketing figures, including Kapil Dev, Virender Sehwag, and Suresh Raina, attended the ceremony as chief guests, revealing the league’s logo, jerseys, and trophy.
Veteran producer Dil Raju supports the tournament as its honorary chairman. The Tollywood PRO League aims to celebrate the connection between cinema and cricket, featuring industry professionals from all 24 crafts as players. Previously, leagues like CCL primarily involved actors playing cricket, but this time, individuals from other crafts, such as directors, editors, fight masters, and dance choreographers, will take on roles as batters and bowlers.
Looking at more specifics, the league will feature six franchise teams, along with planned fan engagement zones and celebrity team owners. Details about these owners will be announced soon. Fans are already eager to see this unique cricketing event begin.
This new league brings together the excitement of Tollywood and cricket for the Telugu film industry.
