This New Year brought an interesting competition between two classic films, Jalsa and Murari. Fans re-released both movies for the occasion, and we can now examine their theatrical earnings.
Special New Year screenings for the Telugu cult classics Murari and Jalsa received a strong theatrical response. This showed the enduring appeal of nostalgia and star power. Both films, presented in 4K versions, played on December 31 and January 1, drawing significant crowds in major locations. Jalsa clearly led in terms of numbers. The Pawan Kalyan film started with robust advance bookings and maintained its momentum across all special shows.
By December 31, Jalsa sold approximately 34,000 tickets in monitored areas. Thanks to premium ticket prices and high occupancy, the movie earned an estimated ₹72 to ₹75 lakh gross solely from these special showings. In contrast, Murari, featuring Mahesh Babu, began with a slower pace but saw consistent growth as New Year festivities reached their peak.
Murari strongly appealed to family audiences and fans on January 1. By December 31, the film sold around 20,000 tickets, collecting close to ₹48 to ₹50 lakh from its special shows. Together, both films achieved combined collections nearing ₹1.2 crore.
This outcome demonstrates the significant box office potential of classic re-releases. While Jalsa stood out as the clear leader in ticket sales and revenue, Murari also put in a strong performance, confirming that beloved films can still draw audiences to cinemas many years after their initial release.
