Google India’s Year in Search 2025 list reveals a surprising trend in how audiences engage with cinema: not all the most-searched films this year were box office successes. Two significant Tollywood-linked action spectacles, in particular, secured spots in the Top 10 searches, but primarily because they left fans feeling let down.

Saiyaara topped Google’s search rankings, with Kantara: A Legend Chapter 1, Coolie, War 2, Sanam Teri Kasam, Marco, Housefull 5, Game Changer, Mrs., and Mahavatar Narsimha following. This list clearly highlights why War 2 and Game Changer, despite being highly sought after, turned out to be major letdowns.

Game Changer, featuring Ram Charan and directed by S Shankar, appeared on this Top 10 list, yet the film reflected fan frustration more than any sense of triumph. The movie and its star-director pairing generated consistent online buzz over several years. However, Charan’s star power, combined with a political action theme, ultimately fell short due to Shankar’s perceived decline in directorial execution. This resulted in significant financial losses for both its producers and distributors.

Regarding War 2, this high-profile action thriller stars Hrithik Roshan and marked Jr NTR’s debut as an antagonist. It garnered considerable pan-Indian casting and promotional excitement, further boosted by NTR’s immense popularity following the success of RRR. Despite the anticipation, the film did not captivate its audience. Even as one of the most searched films, it proved to be a significant letdown for Jr NTR’s fanbase. Thus, two major Telugu releases from 2025, widely talked about but commercially underperforming, have resurfaced in discussions during 2026.
