Christmas Movie Releases: A Crowded Festive Season at Cinemas

A Packed List of Releases This Christmas

Christmas movie posters lined up for holiday releases

The upcoming Christmas period promises a busy time for movie theaters. Initially, many smaller films planned to debut the week after December 5, assuming Akhanda 2 would release then. However, Akhanda 2’s shift to December 12 forced numerous other productions to reschedule their premieres.

Mowgli was able to launch with only a day’s difference from Akhanda 2. Most other movies, however, opted out of that week, now targeting Christmas for their release. This creates a crowded holiday schedule, featuring a mix of mid-tier, low-budget, and dubbed productions. Since no major star vehicle is competing, viewers can anticipate a small festival of diverse films.

Roshan Meka’s Champion and Aadi Saikumar’s Shambhala remain on track for their planned Christmas debuts. Several other titles have now joined them. The horror movie Eesha, initially set for December 12, will now arrive on December 25. Additionally, sources indicate Annagaaru Vastaru has also moved to the holiday release window.

Shivaji’s Dandora is another movie looking to premiere around Christmas. Kannada actor Kichcha Sudeep’s latest project, Mark, also enters the competition, with a Telugu release planned. Mohanlal’s experimental movie Vrushhabha will also debut during this period; with Geetha Arts managing its distribution, expectations are high for its performance. Furthermore, smaller films such as Pathang and Vanara have also selected the holiday period for their launches.

Approximately eight films are preparing for release during the final week of December. Given that none are large-budget productions and some are dubbed versions, securing screens might not pose a significant problem. The main challenge will be for one of these films to capture audience interest and become the holiday season’s breakout hit.
