SPB Statue At Ravindra Bharathi: Why Are People Protesting?

SP Balasubrahmanyam stands as one of the most celebrated singers in the Indian film industry’s history. With over 40,000 songs recorded, he earned immense love and respect across all South Indian languages and beyond.

The Telangana government recently unveiled a statue of SPB at Hyderabad’s renowned Ravindra Bharathi. However, a group of individuals, identifying as Telangana movement activists, unexpectedly voiced their opposition to the installation.

These protesters argued that the venue should exclusively honor artists from Telangana, such as Gaddar or Ande Sri. Their central argument was that SPB, not being from Telangana, did not merit a statue at this specific location.

Many individuals on social media platforms strongly disagree with this stance. They assert that SPB is a beloved figure of the Telugu states, and consider it unfortunate to witness such division surrounding a legend who brought global recognition to Telugu music.

One user expressed sadness, noting that while people from Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and even Hindi-speaking regions proudly claim SPB as their own, it is disheartening to see Telugu people object to his legacy within his home territory.
