Daggubati Suresh Babu, a well-known producer and prominent exhibitor, has been chosen as the new president of the Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce. His Progressive Panel secured a win in Sunday’s election, defeating the Mana Panel. Ashok Kumar will serve as the new secretary, while producer Surya Devara Nag Vamshi and Bharat Chowdary will both hold positions as vice presidents.
Two main panels were established for this year’s election, competing for various roles across the producer, exhibitor, distributor, and studio sectors. Suresh Babu headed the Progressive Panel, which included notable figures such as Dil Raju, Allu Arvind, KS Rama Rao, Y. Ravi Shankar, and Swapna Dutt. Chadalavada Srinivas, C Kalyan, YVS Chowdary, and Prasanna Kumar led the Mana Panel.
Film Chamber regulations stipulated that the president’s role for this term would come from the exhibitors’ sector. Consequently, Suresh Babu ran for the position and achieved a clear victory.
Before the presidential election, chairpersons for all four sectors were chosen, and 44 executive committee members from various groups were elected. The Progressive Panel saw 31 of its members selected, while 17 members from the Mana Panel were also chosen.
The chamber has a total of 3,355 registered members. Only 43% of these members, accounting for 1,421 votes, participated in this election. Several well-known actors who also work as producers did not cast their ballots. The newly elected panel will govern the chamber until 2027.
